Roger lives in Federal Way, Washington with his wife of over forty years Karla. In addition to serving as Post Commander, Roger continues to serve in the capacity of Service Officer for Post 1741; as he has done for a number of years. He is very active in helping with Buddy Poppy drives, membership recruitment and retention activities, as well as general fundraising.  He first joined the VFW as an at-large member in 1978 and has been a life member since 2011.
He is the CEO/President/Owner of two court reporting agencies in Washington, Roger G. Flygare & Associates, Inc., and Alliance Reporting, Inc. His companies employ court reporters in all 39 counties of the State of Washington. Roger served for eight years as the chair of the Court Reporter Advisory Board for the Department of Licensing (DOL) and is requested frequently by DOL to serve on ad hoc committees and workshops for the court reporting profession. He also provides the twice yearly examinations for the Washington Certified Court Reporter licensing.
Roger is the Immediate Past President & Commanding General of the Association of Washington Generals, having served as President & Commanding General for two years, 2014-16. The Association of Washington Generals is a non-profit organization chartered by the Washington State Legislature. He has been a member since 1997 and has served in every board position except treasurer.
Roger is the current President of Court Reporters United, a Washington State based nonprofit, which focuses on providing continuing education opportunities for its membership. He is also a past president of the Washington Court Reporters Association where in his capacity as president-elect and president worked with the legislature to pass Washington CCR mandatory continuing education legislation as well as the legislation authorizing certified court reporters to be added to the Revised Code of Washington (RCW) as individuals authorized to administer oaths and affirmations.
For his community service, he is currently involved serving as Chair of the Federal Way Civil Service Commission, which oversees the hiring of police officers, and is a member of the Federal Way Parks Department. He recently completed the Federal Way Citizens Police Academy in 2018 where the inner workings of the police department were shared with residents of Federal Way who took the classes.
